ROTTING INDUSTRY

2018

Buffalo, NY

Silo City

Medium: flour, cheerios, barley, malt, water, 2018

This project is a play on The Wedding of the Waters, which was originally a ceremony that celebrated the Industrial boom in Buffalo. in 1825, Governor Clinton started in Buffalo and took a barrel of Lake Erie water, traveled the length of the canal down the Hudson River to New York Harbor and poured that Lake Erie water into the Salt water of the Atlantic Ocean. Symbolizing that the two waters were now united. Today the water in Buffalo's Silo City shows the decay of their once prosperous ports for importing and exporting goods. In this installation I traced the outlines of the puddles of water that are in the Malt House with flour. The flour then began to mold, grow and show beautiful colors from the minerals that were previously on the floor.
